This model is the head of an Ork based on the Orks from Warhammer 40K. This was an exercise to practice multiple 3D skills such as: sculpting; baking a normal map from a high-poly model to a low-poly model; and texturing skin.
I used Affinity Photo to design specific details that I would feature on the model. I decided that the Ork head would feature cybernetics, implying past injury due to many battles. I also drew a front and side view to use as reference when modelling.
The entirety of the 3D modelling process I did in Blender, in which I would create the head with all of its major details. Smaller details were done via sculpting. I kept a copy of the low-poly version, as this would be the model I would texture in Substance 3D Painter.
After exporting the model, I started texturing the low-poly model in Substance 3D Painter. I baked multiple maps to assist with texturing, which included baking the normal map of the sculpted model onto the low-poly model to add detail. I then watched multiple tutorials to guide me when painting the roughness, normals, and colours of the skin. The metallic parts were much easier to texture due to what I'd learnt in my previous project.
I learnt a lot during this project, and I'm quite pleased with the result. I intend to further refine this process in future projects.
